HIAS+JCORE join Faith in Labour annual reception
Nov 15, 2024
Our Executive Director David Mason was delighted to speak at a panel event in Parliament yesterday (14 November), held as part of Faith in Labour’s annual Interfaith Reception.
The session was chaired by Sir Stephen Timms MP, the Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work of the United Kingdom, and opened by Baroness Maeve Sherlock, Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Work and Pensions).
Joined on the panel by Anna Dixon MP and Imam Asim Hafiz, David was asked about the reasons why the new government should be excited to work with interfaith partners. David stressed the potential that faith communities have to reach into the civic space, and the understanding they hold around the importance of social responsibility.
The important role that interfaith plays in social cohesion was also discussed. David highlighted the importance of the Government going beyond listening to faith communities, to actively build and plan alongside them.
The event was held during Interfaith Week 2024 and was also attended by Faith in Labour head Russell Rook, and figures from across different faith and religious communities.
At HIAS+JCORE, we believe that faith leadership can play a key role in bringing about policy change. We’re therefore excited to be preparing for the launch of our own Interfaith Refugee Network in 2025, which will build on the strong relationships we hold across faith communities. Watch this space!
